PechaKucha Night Nashville

Nashville is getting its own PechaKucha Night.

We know there are a lot of designers living in our neighborhood – some of them are our friends, some even our contributors – so when Phillip Tomlinson asked us to pass this along we knew there would be an audience for it:

Give a designer a microphone, and they’ll talk forever. On that idea, PechaKucha was born.

PechaKucha was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

A typical PechaKucha Night consists of around ten presenters, each presenting their ideas, thoughts, passions, pretty much anything. Each presenter will have 6 minutes and 40 seconds (20 slides @ 20 seconds each) to get their story across. It’s based around the creative community and creative ideas and the inspirations of Nashville’s people.

The idea of PechaKucha|Nashville is to bring together the many faces and ideas of Nashville into one creative media. From the stories of yesterday to the ideas of tomorrow, Nashville has a story to tell, and this is the avenue to tell it.

PechaKucha Night – Nashville Vol. 1 will be held on June 7 at The Rutledge. Several local young designers from around the city will present on different topics.

“I really want to focus my efforts on East Nashville and spreading the word to all the talented and hidden creative stories of East Nashville’s residents,” Tomlinson told us. For more info, get in touch with Tomlinson and David Archer, the Nashville PechaKucha city organizers – you can email them at pechakucha.nashville -at- gmail -dot- com, or visit the PechaKucha Nashville website.
